Second Season at Walden Family Playhouse Promises Three World Premiere Musicals and Holes Live on Stage
July 17, 2003DENVER, CO - After a successful first season including four world premiere musicals and more than 50,000 children in attendance, Walden Family Playhouse will build on their success with their upcoming second season. Featuring three more original musical works and a very special production of HOLES—Live on Stage, based on the award winning book and Walden Media's hit movie adaptation, the second season promises more celebrated composers, lyricists and bookwriters from the worlds of theatre, film and television. The company will also continue to develop original concepts that find the best ways to combine family entertainment and educational merit.

As the company that brought Louis Sachar's beloved Newbery Award winning book to movie theatres this spring, Walden is uniquely positioned to debut to Colorado audiences Louis Sachar's adaptation of Holes for the stage. Wrongfully accused of a crime he did not commit, Stanley Yelnats is sent to Camp Green Lake where he toils in the hot sun digging holes. Under the watchful eye of the unscrupulous warden, Stanley becomes aware that he's digging for a reason: the warden is looking for something. - HEIDI (November 18 - January 4, 2004)
A new holiday production of the beloved classic, Heidi tells the tale of a spirited young orphan who is sent to live with her curmudgeonly hermit grandfather high in the Swiss Alps. Her exuberant nature wins over her grandfather and the two live happily together until Heidi is removed from her mountaintop home by an opportunistic aunt who steals her to act as a companion for a sick child in the city. Follow Heidi's adventures as she finds her way back into the loving arms of her grandfather. Julia Jordan (TOBY AND THE BIG TOP, SARAH PLAIN AND TALL) returns to create another memorable world premiere musical for Walden Family Playhouse. - NAUTILUS: 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (January 27 - March 14, 2004)
An exciting new adventure based on the favorite Jules Verne novel. Climb aboard the Nautilus as Captain Nemo takes you on an underwater journey across the oceans of the world. Set to a fresh, funny and energetic score, this world premiere musical makes this exciting classic accessible and entertaining. - KITTYHAWK: THE WRIGHT BROTHERS (April 6 - May 23, 2004)
A musical centennial celebration - from bicycles to biplanes, a rollicking adventure about the Wright brothers and the race to flight. A story about family, determination and invention. This heart pounding achievement in American history comes alive on stage at Walden Family Playhouse.
